Allied troops arrived in the major cities in the following days and then released. On 27 April 1945 Mussolini, wearing the uniform of a German soldier, was captured at Dongo, near the Swiss border, while attempting to travel abroad with her lover Claretta Petacci. Recognized by the partisans, was imprisoned and executed April 28 at Giulino Mezzegra of his body and then exposed to upside down, alongside those of Petacci and other leaders, in Piazzale Loreto in Milan.
